About p2pool

P2Pool currently works well, that’s true. But there is a plan to restart p2pool shares chain after 20 Sep 2013.

New NVC protocol changes will be activated since this date, allowing us to remove ECDSA signatures for PoW blocks and 0.01 coin lower bound for coinbase outputs. So, P2Pool diff with upstream will become significantly smaller than diff of current P2Pool implementation. Also it will provide an opportunity to run public nodes without current limitations.

Non final release 0.4.3

Source code is available at github, Linux & Mac builds will be published soon.

Changes list:

  • Balanced PoS/PoW blocks weighting;
  • No minimum limit for coinbase outputs;
  • No ECDSA signature required for PoW blocks anymore;
  • No fee required for coinbase transaction anymore;
  • Built-in PoW CPU miner removed, now only PoS miner available in the wallet;
  • getmininginfo RPC now able to calculate stake power.

Highlighted changes which will be active on MainNet since 20 Sep 2013.

And don’t forget about ROI switch at 20 June 2013, less than 4 days remaining.

Репозиторий обновлен, также выложен win32 билд. Пока еще не финальный 0.4.3, но близко к нему. Остальные билды будут выложены после стабилизации.

Реализовано на данный момент:

  • Сбалансированный метод расчета веса блоков;
  • Отсутствие нижнего лимита на выходы coinbase-транзакций;
  • Удалено ECDSA подписывание заголовка для PoW блоков;
  • Удалена комиссия для coinbase-транзакций;
  • Удален встроенный PoW майнер за отсутствием в нем смысла;
  • getmininginfo теперь показывает вес доступных для stake выходов.
  • Мелкий рефакторинг.

Первые четыре пункта в продакшен сети вступают в силу с 20 сентября, для тестнета они активны по факту. Когда они вступят в силу в основной сети, жизнь станет намного проще.

Планируемые изменения

Пока последовательность такая:

  • 20 июня переход на новый алгоритм вычисления ROI (реализовано в 0.4.1);

Protocol update: Preconditions and prospects.

Just like PPCoin, NovaCoin uses ChainTrust score instead of ChainWork (used by BTC, LTC and another PoW-based systems).

We decided to implement the new chain trust score calculation algorithm. It will prevent pure PoS double-spend attacks even without broadcasted checkpoints. Now I’ll try to describe, how it works in comparison with an old algorithm.

Pre-release 0.4.3

0.4.3 minor release planned for this weekend. Changes announce:

  • GBT speedup up to 10 times, to make stratum pools more reliable under high tx/s rates;
  • Stake generation statistics (available coins amount, current stake generation power) will be available through RPC;
  • Coinstake inputs adding policy will be a little more aggressive for some cases.

0.4.3 will be compatible with 0.4.2 in terms of database format and protocol rules.

0.4.3 запланирован на выходных, включит в себя:

  • Изменения, ускоряющие работу GBT до 10 раз;
  • Наряду с PoW мощностью через RPC можно будет получать информацию о текущем Stake Weight кошелька (т.е. PoS мощность);
  • Клиент будет использовать более агрессивную политику склеивания транзакций при генерации стейков.

По части совместимости на уровне БД и протокола клиент ничем не будет отличаться от 0.4.2.
